Beginners Course
An archery beginners' course is a prerequisite to joining any archery club. The primary aim of a beginner's course is to ensure that you can shoot safely.
The format of the Thirsk Bowmen beginners' course is 2 hours of online virtual sessions to cover book work and 8 hours of practical sessions at the club’s outdoor field to cover the physical aspects. To successfully complete the course, you’ll need attend all the sessions.

A device capable of using Microsoft Teams/Zoom video communications will be required for the virtual sessions. All equipment will be provided for the physical sessions.
Among other things, the course covers:
• The different types of Archery and Bows
• Equipment, how to select it and identify damage/faults
• Range Layout, Commands and Safety Procedures
• Shooting Technique
• Scoring and Progress/Achievement Awards
The courses are open to anyone over the age of 8. Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who is also taking the course.
The course costs £60 for adults and £45 for under 18s. Please note that the full fee is required at the time of booking. Cancellations made 14 days or more in advance of the course will receive a refund of the course cost, less a £10 administration fee. Cancellations made within 14 days of the course will not receive a refund. Bookings and enquiries can be made by contacting the club secretary at tb.secretary@outlook.com.
